As someone who got hooked on SUP after my first wobbly session on Lake Union, I’ve spent more hours than I can count figuring out paddle boarding in the Seattle area. Here’s what actually matters.
Getting solid advice on stand-up paddleboarding has gotten complicated with all the gear options flying around lately, but I’ll break it down for you.
Water conditions are looking ideal with calm morning winds expected Saturday and Sunday before 10 AM. Water temperature has climbed to 58°F, comfortable for most paddlers with a wetsuit.
Parking fills up fast on sunny weekends. Arrive before 8 AM for beach parking or use the side streets on 63rd Ave SW.
The best launch spot remains the sandy beach near the bathhouse. Watch for swimmers closer to the pier area during peak hours.
Enjoy the paddle!
And that’s what makes stand-up paddleboarding endearing to us fellow SUP enthusiasts — it’s just different out here.
At the end of the day, the best way to learn is to just get out there and do it. You’ll figure out your own preferences pretty quickly.
